Manfred - George Gordon Byron

A dramatic poem on a Faustian theme. The main character Manfred, living in his castle in the Swiss Alps, uses his mysterious psychic powers at midnight to summon cosmic spirits who offer him long life and strength. Manfred refuses this and asks the spirits to give him oblivion, but they do not have such power, so they conjure up a beautiful woman for him. Manfred faints at the sight of her and a curse is pronounced over him. After that, he deeply feels the fate of man. Hummingbird edition.

Supraphon 1989 (in the Lyra Pragensis edition, as the 96th volume). illustrated by Adolf Absolon and translated by Martin Procházka. Full leather binding, 140 pages, unread.
